Troopers make 36 DUI arrests in Independence Day holiday campaign

Nebraska State Troopers took 36 impaired drivers off the road in the days surrounding the Independence Day holiday.

“Our troopers stayed busy this weekend as Nebraskans gathered to celebrate America,” said Colonel John Bolduc, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “As the summer continues, we encourage all travelers to drive safely, no matter how far the road trip takes you.”

Troopers and dispatchers worked overtime from June 30 through July 5, as part of a nationwide effort to keep roads safe for 4th of July travel. NSP’s campaign was made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.

In addition to the 36 arrests for driving under the influence, troopers also issued citations for speeding, 612; speeding over 100 miles per hour, 19; open alcohol container, 30; minor in possession of alcohol, 25; driving under suspension, 30; no seat belt, 18; and improper child restraint, 13. Troopers also performed 278 motorist assists across the state.

Troopers will continue specialized traffic enforcement efforts this summer across the entire state.
