Summerland SkillsUSA national qualifers honored at pep rally

The "Advocate-Messenger" hosted a pep rally and open house for the National SkillsUSA qualifiers, Friday, at The Office.

National qualifers - Faith King, Julie Olivan, Sierra Thomson, Cassie Livingston and Jaelyn Shaver - were recognized by SAM Publisher LuAnn Schindler.

Following introductions, participants gave a brief overview and/or demonstration of the event in which they will participate. King will compete in Job Skills Demonstration A; Olivan, Prepared Speech; and Thomson, Livingston and Shaver comprise the middle school engineering team.

Qualifiers, along with advisors Mike Odell and Kendra Shrader, took part in Atlanta trivia. Faith King was deemed winner of a $20 Visa gift card.

On behalf of the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce, Schindler presented each qualifier with $100.

Gift bags were distributed to the qualifiers and advisers, where they received a specially-designed T-shirt, along with goodies for the trip. Team members joined other Nebraska SkillsUSA qualifiers in Omaha, Sunday, en route to Atlanta.

Refreshments were served in The Office, following the event.
