Individuals whose irrigation systems water Holt County roadways may find themselves in hot water.

On May 31, supervisors approved to continue enforcment of Nebraska Revised Statute 39-302, regarding sprinkler irrigation systems and water on public roads.Failure to comply with the law may result in a Class IV misdemeanor.

Chairman Bill Tielke told supervisors, “What we’ve found is putting names in the minutes is as effective as anything. They don’t like having their names in the paper.”

Following a motion by Darrin Paxton, with a second from Josh Treptow, supervisors unanimously approved having Bob Weber continue in the patrol position.

Interim planning and zoning administrator Gene Kelly addressed the governing board about surveys regarding the county’s comprehensive plan.

Approximately 100 surveys had been filled out online and “some” paper surveys had been returned.

After speaking with Keith Marvin, who is assisting the planning and zoning commission update the county’s comprehensive plan, Kelly said a decision was made to extend the deadline for surveys to be returned.

Tentative plans were to keep the online survey open. Kelly said the commission was scheduled to discuss a final deadline at its June 5 meeting.

“We still need to set up town hall meetings,” Kelly said. “I’d like to keep it open until then.”

“That’s where you’re going to get your best comments,” said supervisor Doug Frahm.
