Senior citizen commits DUS twice in two weeks

Mark A. Rasmussen, 65, of O’Neill faced the Honorable Kale Burdick in the Holt County courtroom in O’Neill on June 6 on charges of driving under suspension, March 30 and April 11. Burdick fined him $100 and $50 costs in each case. Rasmussen was self-represented.

Kara K. Coufal, 44, of Madison appeared for arraignment. She waived her right to counsel and reached a plea agreement with Holt County attorney Brent Kelly. In exchange for Coufal’s guilty plea to Count I, DUS, a Class 3 misdemeanor, Kelly dismissed Count II, no valid registration. Burdick fined Coufal $100 and taxed her $50 costs. She was cited by a Nebraska State Patrol officer March 20 on Highway 20 about a mile west of O’Neill.

Johan V. Ortola Lozada a/k/a Johan V. Lozada Ortola, Johan V. Ortola and Johan V. Lozada, 29 of Katy, Texas, waived his right to counsel and pleaded guilty to three infraction counts, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal U-turn. He was fined $300, $100 and $25, respectively, and taxed $49 costs. He was cited May 17 in O’Neill.

The following offenders entered guilty pleas by waiver:

• Serena Babutzke-Davis, 25, of O’Neill, fined $25 for failing to file rabies certificate, $20 for allowing dog to run at large and $49 costs, cited May 2 in O’Neill;

• Jesse R. Anderson, 41, of O’Neill, fined $100 for possession of drug paraphernalia, cited April 24 in O’Neill;

• Amanda L. Imel, 31, of O’Neill, fined $25 and $49 costs for no operator’s license on person, cited Feb. 2 in O’Neill; and

• An O’Neill 15-year-old youth was fined $35 and $49 costs for the May 15 possession of tobacco (vape device) on school property.
