Cheatum shines bright: Wraps up high school track career with double state medal triumph

Hadley Cheatum represented the Summerland girls' track and field team in two finals, Saturday, at the Nebraska School Activities Association Class C State Track and Field Championships, in Omaha.

She finishes her high school career by adding two additional state medals to her collection.

During Friday's prelims, Cheatum had the fourth fastest qualifying time in the 100m hurdles, running 15.55.

In Saturday's final, Cheatum finished where she started, earning the fourth-place medal after running 15.63.

Liberty Baker of Shelby-Rising City struck gold, breaking the tape in 14.81. Kinslee Bosak of Bishop Neumann earned silver, running 15.24, while Clarkson/Leigh's Chloe Hanel ran 15.28, placing third.

Cheatum competed in the 300m hurdles and ran 46.18, Friday, to advance to Saturday's finale.

The Summerland senior shaved .20 off her qualifying time on Saturday. Bosak edged Cheatum at the line to claim the gold medal. The Bishop Neumann runner cross in 44.54, while Cheatum ran 44.59.

She also ran in the 400m prelim on Friday, placing 10th. She completed the oval in 1:00.13.

While Cheatum's high school track career comes to a close, she will compete next year for the University of South Dakota.
