Gene Sisson

A memorial service for Gene K. Sisson, 83, of Ewing, will be Thursday, June 1, at 11 a.m. , at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ewing, with Father Sund, officiating. Visitation will be Thursday before the service from 9 to 11 a.m., at the church.

Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Gene died Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.

Gene Keller Sisson was born Feb. 10, 1940, to Robley and Helen (Snyder) Sisson at Deloit, Nebraska. Gene attended Ewing High School and graduated with the class of 1958. He enlisted in the United States Army on Aug. 26, 1958, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 25, 1961. He served three years, with 24 months being in Germany. On Nov. 9, 1963, he married LaVonne (Reicks) at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He trucked most of his life. Gene lived in Ewing his whole life. He was a member of the Rural Fire Department for 40 years and Baurer Memorial Board for 14 years. He enjoyed junk jaunt, bargain Buy-ways, and any garage sale he could find.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne Sisson of Ewing; children, Jan (Ken) Kunz of Stuart; Joy Sisson of Norfolk; and Jill (Jason) Stamp of Inman; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Dana Sisson of O’Neill; sister-in-law, Dianne Sisson of O’Neill and many nieces and nephews.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mark Sisson (1967) and Jay Sisson (1985); grandson, Paul Joseph Kunz (1998); brothers, Robley Sisson, William Sisson, Jack Sisson, Ron Sisson, Bobby Sisson, Jerry Sisson and Tom Sisson; sisters, Betty Sorensen and Marcella Steskal; nephew, Jack Steskal and niece, Barbara Sisson Hill.
