Circle May 6 on the calendar. Be prepared for increased traffic near Summerland School. Be on alert for selfie-seeking seniors donned in commencement caps and gowns.
A graduation ceremony for the class of 2023 will begin at 3 p.m., at the school, situated at 51293 857th Road, near Ewing.
The program will begin with a slide show. Summerland band will play the processional.
Superintendent Kyle Finke will present the administrative welcome and the senior welcome will be given by the salutatorian.
Adrienne Parker and Lenora Kester will sing "Remember Me," by Ruth M. Gray.
Principal Greg Appleby will present senior scholarships, followed by the valedictorians' addresses.
Honor graduates will be recognized by high school counselor, Kendra Shrader.
Appleby, Finke and Steve Thiele, board president, will distribute diplomas.
Seniors selected a white rose with blue tips as the class flower and Carolina blue, black and silver as class colors.
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us," was chosen as class motto.
Class members taking part in commencement exercises include Emily Ahlers, Joe Ahlers, Dylan Barlow, Lena Bolling, Hadley Cheatum, Levi Cronk, Emma Funk, Landon Hobbs, Emma Hoffman, Colby Hupp, Madison Kester, Faith King, Harper Klabenes, Adrian Mejia-Moncada, Olga Mendoza-Garcia, Kellen Mlnarik, Austin Muff, Wyatt Napier, Adrienne Parker, Jaykwon Petite, Ashley Pischel, Matthew Potter, Kendrick Schroeder, Danielle Schrunk, Karolina Soto Cerda, Alex Thiele, Trevor Thomson and Brynna Umphress.
