Housing funds released to Ewing village

A new housing unit in Ewing is one step closer to reality.

Village chairman James Ramold confirmed funds for construction of a two-unit duplex, from the Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund, were received last week.

During the village trustees’ Feb. 13 meeting, Carla Kimball, with the Central Nebraska Economic Development District, said the organization will work with village officials to establish a timeline for construction.

“Some of that will be dependent on weather,” she said. “Some of it will have to be set within board minutes, depending on how fast you want to roll with it.”

Trustee Dustin Wright said local contractors are “about 18 months out.”

Kimball said construction needs to be completed by August 2025.

“If things take longer we just ask for an extension,” she said.

Typically, CNEDD works with one general contractor, who may subdivide work to other entities.

Ramold said he hopes land acquisition can take place in March.

In other business, trustees:

• Approved Resolution 420, to support Great Plains Communications to apply for a great for fiber funding;

• Renewed a liquor license for Westend Mini Mart; and

• Discussed complaints received about snowmobiles being used in village limits. According to village clerk Sharon Swails, snowmobiles are not to be used on private property or driven in the village park. Trustee Kane Fry said snowmobiles had also been driven on the Cowboy Trail.
