Wrestlers compete at Wakefield Invite

Alex Thiele earned his 100th win, Saturday, at the Wakefield Trojan Wrestling Invite. He finished third in the 120-pound division.

Thiele and his TeamMates finished 11th in the 20-team field, scoring 54.5 points.

Plainview domainted the field, tallying 152.5 points, en route to the team title. Wisner-Pilger finished second and Cedar Catholic and West Point-Beemer tied for third place.

Ethan Kester brought home the silver medal in the 126-pound division. He pinned Jaxon Fisher, West Point-Beemer, in :47 and won, 7-0, over Noah Brichacek, Guardian Angels Central Catholic. In the match for first place, Braxton Siebrandt, Wisner-Pilger, won, 6-2.

Other Bobcat wrestlers competing included Caden Mendoza, who also lost a 120-pound match to Tavious Pinkelman, Hartington Cedar Catholic, in :46.

Connor Thomson competed in the 132-pound class. After opening with an 8-4 decision over Dylan Schinstock, GACC, Thomson lost by fall, in 1:24, to Braeden Kleinschmit, HCC. In the second consolation round, Thomson forfeited, due to injury, to Tyler Archer, Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

Logan Kester finished 1-2 in the 138-pound class. He lost a 10-0 decision to Brady Hochstein, HCC and defeated GACC's Ben Oligmueller, by tech fall, 15-0. In the second consolaution round, Kester was injured, giving the win to Jayden Reed of Stanton.

Shayne Jenkins finished first in the 138B division. In the quarterfinal, Jenkins won, 10-5, over Jerimiah Reimers, Wakefield. Jenkins pinned Riley Swick, Ponca, in 5:06 in the semifinal and won by fall, in 2:41, over Kasen York, of Wayne, in the first-place match.

AJ Hobbs won three of five matches in the 160-poudn division. He started the meet with a win by fall, in 5:04, over Esai Ortiz, MSJV. In the quartrfinal, Kale Korth, HCC, pinned Hobbs in 4:30. He claimed two wins by fall in the consolation bracket, over Gavin Hardeman, LDNE, in 1:30 and Evan Schuetze, GACC, in 4:02. In the consolation semifinal, Becker Pohlman, Stanton, pinned Hobbs in 4:56.

Keaton Thiele won three of five matches in the 170-pound class. After pinning Quad County Northeast's Justin Backer, in 4:40, Thiele lost a 9-2 decision to Tristen Coates, Oakland-Craig.

In the consolation round, Thiele won a 3-1 decision over Kendrick Schroeder of Summerland and pinned Luke Hagedorn, GACC, in :55. In the consolation semifinal, Mauricio Hernandez won, by sudden victory, 3-1.

Schroeder opened 170-pound competition with a loss by fall, in 5:22, to Jeremiah Wilgers, Tea Area. He pinned Wakefield's Diego Rubelcaba, in :45, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Thiele.
