Former O'Neill resident sentenced for domestic assault

Tyler K. Hanson, 40, of Rapid City, South Dakota (formerly of O’Neill), faced the Honorable Kale Burdick in the Holt County courtroom in O’Neill on Dec. 13.

He pleaded guilty to a Class I misdemeanor, third-degree domestic assault, pursuant to a plea agreement with Holt County attorney Brent Kelly. In return, a felony count of false imprisonment was dismissed and there was a joint recommendation for a probation sentence.

Burdick ordered a 24-month term of probation, under terms set forth in a Wheeler County sentence. He was ordered to pay probation fees of $630 and was taxed $50 costs. Hanson was arrested by an O’Neill police officer Aug. 24. He was represented by Holt County public defender Rod Smith.

Hanson was resentenced, by the Honorable Karin Noakes in Wheeler County district court, on Dec. 12, to consecutive two-year terms of probation after he admitted violating four conditions of his probation for attempted use of a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and willful reckless driving. He was represented by Smith in that case as well.

In addition to standard terms of probation, Hanson was ordered, by Noakes, to complete an intensive outpatient treatment program, take all medications as directed, attend at least three 12-step meetings per week and maintain at least weekly contact with his sponsor.

Eric P. Moffitt, 43, of Leadville, Colorado, pleaded guilty, by waiver, to a CMV violation, no escort vehicle on a load over 12 feet wide. He was fined $25 and assessed $49 costs. Moffitt was cited Nov. 17, at the Chambers junction on Highway 281, by a Nebraska State Patrol carrier enforcement officer.
