Krebs strikes gold at O'Neill wrestling invite

Summerland's Raina Krebs finished the O'Neill Invite undefeated.

Krebs earned the gold medal in the 235-pound division, Saturday, Dec. 3. Her journey to the medal stand began with a bye, followed by a win, by fall, over Fillmore Central's Gracie Lemke. In the semifinal, Krebs pinned Wood River's Nevaeh Bryant, in 3:52.

The win pitted Krebs against Quinlyn Kennel, of Norfolk Catholic. Krebs won a 4-0 decision.

Lenora Kester finished fourth in the 110-pound division.

After a bye, Kester won by technical fall, in 5:47, over Aine Graesser, from Chamberlain, South Dakota. The win set up a semifinal match against Boone Central's Cadence Wood, who pinned Kester in 2:52.

In the consolation bracket, Kester pinned Mishayla Slaymaker, of Battle Creek, in :57. Kester wrestled Jasmine Morales, of Grand Island, in the third-place match. Morales won, by fall, in 4:32.

Ashley Melcher opened competition in the 120-pound class, with a loss, by fall, in 2:36, to Cherish Faircloth, of WR.

Following a bye, Melcher faced Jayan Sackville, Pierce, and lost, by fall, in 1:42.

Jadyn Hobbs competed in the 145-pound division. She opened with a loss, by fall, to. Avery Hawke, of Grand Island. Hawke pinned Hobbs in 1:23.

In the first consolation round, Hobbs pinned David City's Savannah Gregory, in 2:57 and faced BC's Madison Reilly in the consolation semifinal. Reilly pinned Hobbs in :39.

In the 170-pound class, Emma Petersson began with a bye and faced GI's Meghan Hixon in the second round. Hixon pinned Petersson in 1:04. In the consolation round, Petersson met Carrington Uhlir, of BC, and lost, by fall, in 4:21.
