Road, sewer maintenance, dominate Page agenda

Maintenance projects on village roads and sewer system took place during the Page village trustees meeting, Oct. 10.

Discussion about the village sewer maintenance moving forward took place. Extra funds are in the budget to allow for all sewer canals to be jetted and cleared on a regularly-scheduled basis. Village Clerk Cora Caulkins presented a map of the canals for review. The board approved this request and will begin the process immediately.

Board members also discussed street repairs already in progress, as well as the repairs that have been requested.

Trustees voted to look into further repairs, as well as solutions to a drainage issue, in front of the Hair Hut and post office.

A four-way stop sign is planned at the intersecton of 5th and Main streets.

The next step will be to paint the large 'STOP' lettering before each newly-placed sign. Following the painting of the letters on the streets, stop signs, which will include flags and flashers, so the signs are noticeable to traffic, will be installed.

In addition to the stop signs, “stop ahead” signs will be added on the approach, warning traffic to slow down.

This project has been a work in progress for some time, trustees noted.

By adding the new stop, trustees said the "hope and intent is to slow traffic from the north and south as they travel through the village and a much-needed addition for the safety of all, but especially the elderly and children."

Other items discussed on the agenda included animal permits, additional back-up training for water and sewer operations, internet service in the village, hazard mitigation, minor repairs to a city-owned building and the addition of gaming machines in the Kountry Korner Café.
