Local FFA chapter, Napier Farms show off outdoor classroom

Ewing farmer Bob Napier and members of the Summerland FFA chapter hosted community members, Sept. 7, at the corn test plot located north of the school.

Approximately 80 inidividuals from the area stopped by the outdoor classroom to take a look at what's sprouted during the growing season.

Napier said six companies - Pioneer, Channel, Brevant, NC+, Dekalb and Golden Harvest - each planted four to five varieties of seed last April.

Bodie Meyer, of Plains Cover Crop, thanked Napier for sharing his land with local students.

"That's a pretty neat thing that we have an opportunity to do this and people have put so much time into it," Meyer said. "Appreciate you guys (students) coming out here after school and taking a peek. I think the momentum is rolling in the right way with FFA, so thanks to everyone who's supported it."

Representatives from each seed company shared information about varieties planted

H and T Seed and Technology, based in Orchard, along with FFA members, supplied a light lunch for attendees.
