Oakdale man charged with child abuse, assault

Matthew J. Wright, 48, of Oakdale appeared in front of the Honorable Donna Taylor, in the Antelope County courtroom in Neligh last week for arraignment on three counts alleged July 2 in Oakdale, child abuse, a Class 3A felony, and two counts of first-degree assault, Class 1 misdemeanors. A bond review hearing was held. Taylor reduced Wright’s bond, from $25,000, 10% cash, to $10,000, 10%, with condition for no contact, directly nor indirectly, with his stepchildren. She also required him to obtain written permission to “live with anyone.” Further arraignment is set Aug. 17. Wright posted bond Aug. 7, listing an O’Neill address. He is represented by Antelope County public defender Pat Carney of Norfolk.

Haiden M. Sleister, 18, of Tilden faced Taylor for arraignment on two counts alleged between March 19 and April 6, Count I, possession of a stolen firearm, a Class 2A felony, and Count II, theft, $500-$1,499, a Class 1 misdemeanor. Further arraignment is set Aug. 17. Sleister was remanded to the Antelope County Jail, where he was incarcerated in a different case. He is represented by Carney.

Isaac W. Anderson, 37, of Brunswick appeared for arraignment on a Sex Offender Registry Act violation, a Class 3A felony. Anderson requested court appointed counsel. After finding him indigent, Taylor appointed the public defender. Further arraignment is set Aug. 17. Bond, in the amount of $5,000, 10%, posted July 8, is continued. According to a probable-cause affidavit, Anderson was arrested July 7 at his Brunswick home, 300 Tracy Street, as authorities were serving a search warrant in a different case. According to the affidavit, Anderson was convicted in 1992 of first-degree sexual assault in McDonald County, Missouri, and as a “lifetime offender” is required to register each September, December, March and June. According to the affidavit, Anderson registered May 31, after he moved to Brunswick from Knox County but not in June as required.

Jessy L Dirks, 31, of Elgin faced Taylor for further arraignment on a two-count complaint, Count I, a Class 3A felony, strangulation, and Count II, a Class I misdemeanor, third-degree domestic assault, both alleged May 25, in Elgin. Taylor set preliminary hearing for Sept. 7. Bond is continued at $25,000, 10%. Dirks is represented by Carney.

Simon M. Beacom, 20, of Omaha appeared for arraignment on two Class 3 misdemeanor counts alleged June 24, minor in possession of alcohol (age 19/20) and misrepresenting his age to obtain liquor, as well as a count of violating probation that was ordered for his conviction of similar offenses this past spring. Beacom pleaded not guilty to the two current counts. Pretrial hearing and further arraignment on the probation violation charge are set Sept. 7. Bond, in the amount of $1,500, 10%, posted June 25, is continued.

Jagger J. Smith, 24, of Royal appeared for arraignment on a count of driving under the influence of alcohol (.15+), committed July 9. Smith waived his right to counsel and pleaded guilty to the Class W misdemeanor. Taylor ordered Smith to obtain an alcohol/drug evaluation from a certified counselor. Sentencing is set Aug. 17.

Jake R. Short, 22, of Meadow Grove failed to appear for arraignment on Class 2 misdemeanor counts of second-degree forgery alleged in February and March. Taylor ordered that county attorney Joe Abler may file motion and affidavit for an arrest warrant. A complaint, filed by Abler on July 8, alleges Short forged two checks between Feb. 26 and March 3, in amounts of $67.12 and $66.61, to JB Mart and another, in the amount of $300, to Heritage Bank on Feb. 27, all on the account of the same individual.

Dillon E. Perry, 34, of Ewing failed to appear for arraignment on a count of driving under suspension, a Class 3 misdemeanor alleged May 28 in Clearwater. Taylor ordered that the county attorney may file motion and affidavit for arrest warrant.
