Shifting gears: Desire to own business spurs Meyer to return home

June is designated as automotive service professionals month, and Wesley Automotive has provided automotive services to local communities for a year.

Automotive service professionals month is a time to recognize the people who keep vehicles running and friends and family safe, according to the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

Wesley Automotive is operated by Wesley Meyer.

Meyer has worked in automotive services for 17 years. For eight years, he worked at O'Neill.

He relocated to Columbus, where he lived for seven years.

Meyer always knew he wanted to start his own business, so he moved to his hometown, where he has been running Wesley Automotive since 2021.

“It’s always kind of what I wanted to do and this place came up for sale,” Meyer said.

Wesley Automotive is located at 106 2nd Street in Orchard. The one-man shop is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Meyer can work on basically anything automotive, including air conditioning units, batteries, brakes, front ends, engines and transmissions.

“My favorite thing is finding a problem that other shops can’t find … diagnosing the problems,” Meyer said.

When asked how the business got the name, Meyer responded with a laugh.

“Everything Meyer was taken.”

Meyer said he looks forward to expanding his shop in the future.

“I believe you just got to be honest with people and get them (vehicles) out in a decent time,” Meyer said.
