Jose J. Gonzales, 39, of Clearwater appeared in front of the Honorable Donna Taylor in the Antelope County courtroom in Neligh on Wednesday, April 6, for a preliminary hearing on seven counts alleged March 11. Antelope County Attorney Joe Abler filed an amended complaint, charging Gonzales with four Class 3A felony counts of attempted second-degree assault, (originally charged with Class 2A felony counts of second-degree assault), along with two Class 1 misdemeanors, intentional domestic assault and third-degree assault; and a Class 3 misdemeanor, willful reckless driving. Gonzales waived his right to preliminary hearing and was bound over to Antelope County district court, where he is set for arraignment April 27 on the felony counts. The misdemeanors were dismissed, without prejudice, on a motion by Abler.
The defense requested a reduction of Gonzales’ $500,000, 10% cash bond. Abler did not object but requested condition for no contact with victims and a curfew.
Taylor reduced bond to $25,000, 10%, with conditions, including “provide the sheriff's office of the address he will be residing and to have written acknowledgement of permission to reside with the person. The defendant is to be at the residence by 8 p.m. and to not leave the residence before 6 a.m. The defendant is not to consume or be in possession of alcohol or controlled substances. Defendant is to submit to testing by any law enforcement. The defendant is to have no contact with the victims.”
Gonzales is represented by public defender Melissa Figueroa of Norfolk.
Sadie S. Dorn, 42, of Norfolk, who was set for a bench trial on a charge of driving under suspension, alleged May 28, 2020, requested continuance. Taylor set the case for a status hearing May 18. Bond posted Feb. 6, in the amount of $1,500, 10%, is continued. Dorn is self-represented.
Raymond F. Poli, 45, of Neligh was granted continuance, until May 18, for arraignment on a Class 3 misdemeanor charge of no operator’s license, alleged Jan. 21, in Neligh.
Taylor signed warrants for three defendants for writing bad checks, on motions and affidavits filed by Abler on March 31. Warrants were issued for Michael Braband, 27, of Elgin, charged with five felony counts; Dustin G. Carman, 28, of Plainview, four misdemeanor counts; and Scott G. Bruckner, 50, of Neligh, charged with a single misdemeanor count.
