O'Neill woman fined for assault

Sydney M. Abbott, 29, of O’Neill appeared in front of the Honorable Kale Burdick on Tuesday, March 8, in the Holt County courtroom in O’Neill, for an entry of plea hearing. Abbott pleaded no contest to a Class 2 misdemeanor charge of assault by mutual consent. Burdick found the defendant guilty and sentenced her to nine days in the Holt County Jail, with credit given for nine days previously served. She was assessed $50 costs of prosecution. The original Class 1 misdemeanor, third-degree domestic assault, was reduced by Holt County prosecutor Brent Kelly. She was represented by Holt County public defender Rodney Smith.

Abbott was arrested Oct. 24, 2021, after officers responded to a report of the assault of Abbott’s former boyfriend, at his residence.

Austin R. Hiatt, 31, of Atkinson waived his right to counsel and pleaded guilty to a Class 2 misdemeanor count of having no proof of financial responsibility. He was fined $200 and taxed $50 costs of prosecution. Hiatt was cited by an O’Neill police officer Jan 31.

Bobbie I. Kleinberg, 43, of Omaha, appeared for sentencing. Burdick fined Kleinberg $200 and assessed $60 costs for unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle, a Class 3 misdemeanor committed Sept. 11, 2021. Kleinberg was self-represented.

Ryan D. Plessel, 38, of Plattsmouth pleaded guilty, by waiver, to a pair of deer regulation violations, for not tagging the deer/carcass. Plessel was fined $100 for each violation and assessed $49 costs. He was cited by a Nebraska Game and Parks officer Jan. 14, near Chambers.

Thad A. Jones, 49, of Ainsworth pleaded guilty, by waiver, to driving a commercial motor vehicle without a CDL. He was fined $100 and $49 costs. Jones was cited Dec. 2, 2021, south of O’Neill on Highway 281, by a Nebraska State Patrol carrier enforcement officer.
