Kester qualifies for first-ever state girl's wrestling tournament

Lenora Kester's name will forever be written on the first Page of the first chapter of the Summerland Bobcat girls' wrestling team.

In its inaugural season, six Bobcat girls' wrestlers have honed their skills on the mat and entered district competition, Feb. 4 and 5, competing against schools of all sizes in the Nebraska School Activities Association girls' district two at West Point-Beemer.

The Bobcats finished 11th in the 21-team field, scoring 31 points. Pierce claimed the team title, with 167 points.

When the meet wrapped up mid-afternoon, Saturday, Kester clutched a silver medal from the 107-pound class, securing a trip to the first-ever NSAA Girls' State Wrestling Tournament.

Kester's journey to the finals began with a win over Apple Paw, of Madison. Kester pinned Paw in :41.

She claimed a second win by pin in the semifinal, defeating Hadleigh Collison, of Pierce, in 1:35.

In the championship match, Lacy Lemburg, Columbus Lakeview, pinned Kester in 1:23.

Kester will compete at state, Friday, Feb. 18, at 12:30 p.m.

Semifinal and first-round consolation matches are slated for 5 p.m. that evening.

Second-round consolation matches will begin at 8:30 a.m., Feb. 19, with third- and fifth-places matches scheduled to follow the semifinals.

Championship matches will begin at 3 p.m., Feb. 19.

Ammy Arroyo finished 2-2 in district competition in the 185-pound class.

Arroyo opened with a win, by fall, in :24, against Emma Baughman, Papillion-LaVista.

In the quarterfinal, Zeena Villanueva, Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur, pinned Arroyo in one minute.

In the consolation quarterfinal, Arroyo pinned Taylea Spears, BRLD, in :32.

She lost to Martha Hinneh, in the consolation semifinal. Hinneh pinned Arroyo in 1:38.

Sydni McConnell lost an opening-round match in the 107 class.

Jesmy Trujillo, Omaha Bryan, pinned McConnell in :56.

Following a bye in the consolation round, McConnell faced Hadleigh Collison, of Pierce.

Collison pinned McConnell in :44.

Calissa Kester opened district competition in the 185-pound class with a bye and met Darian Earth, Winnebago, in the second round. Earth won, by fall, in 1:27.

She faced Allie Boell, West-Point Beemer, in the consolation quarterfinal and lost, by fall, in :21.

Madi Melcher's opening match against Claire Passch, in the 235-pound class, finished in :48.

The West Point-Beemer wrestler defeated Melcher, sending her to the consolation round.

Melcher defeated LJ Doeppr, Millard North, by fall, in 44, setting up a consolation semifinal match against Omaha Marian's Hillary Adolvo.

Aldovo defeated Melcher, by pin, in :44.

Raina Krebs opened district competition at 235 with a loss to Hillary Adolvo, Omaha Marian, falling 6-1.

Krebs picked up a consolation round win, pinning Kirsten Clark, Papillion La-Vista, in 4:48.

In the consolation semi-final, Quinlyn Kennel, of Norfollk Catholic, pinned Krebs in 4:31.
