Tielke re-elected head of supervisors

Longtime Holt County Supervisor Bill Tielke will continue to preside over the board after he was elected to serve as chairman for 2022, on a 5-0-1-1 vote, when the board met Jan. 6 to reorganize.

Supervisor Scott Keyes was absent from the meeting and Tielke abstained.

Doug Frahm, of Amelia, was elected to chair the county's board of equalization.

After approving board of representatives, delegates and committee assignments for the upcoming year, supervisors approved the reappointments of and set salaries for several county employees.

Gary Connot will remain road superintendent. Supervisors set the salary for the position at $74,200 annually, which includes a stipend of $9,750, received from the state, for Connot to possess a Class A bridge inspection license.

Mike Durre was reappointed planning and zoning administrator, with $8,200 earmarked for Durre's yearly salary.

Deb Hilker was reappointed emergency manager, with a salary of $28,000.

Ken Stenka, veterans service officer, will receive an annual salary of $50,700.

In other action, supervisors:

• set the courthouse custodian salary at $42,000 per year;

• voted to increase hourly road department wages 50 cents per hour and maintain a policy that adds five cents for every consecutive year of employment with the county to the employee's base pay;

• Hired Todd Schneider to fill the position of county mechanic, with a salary of $25 per hour; and

• Set the annual salary for the asphalt supervisor at $59,200.
