Commissioners approve promotion, improvement grants

Antelope County Commissioners approved five tourism grants during Tuesday’s meeting, in Neligh.

Two promotional grants were approved for the Neligh Chamber of Commerce, for $350 apiece. One grant is for the upcoming Novemberfest event, scheduled for Nov. 6 and the second is for the yearly parade of lights.

Neligh-Oakdale TeamMates received $200 to promote the Raft of Crafts event, planned for Nov. 13.

St. Boniface Church, in Elgin, will receive a $350 grant for promotion of the yearly Thanksgiving Bazaar.

A $1,750 improvement grant was approved to the capital campaign for the youth enrichment center, to be constructed at the Antelope County Fairgrounds.

The building will house poultry and rabbit exhibits during the fair and serve as a permanent home for 4-H shooting sports.The total cost of the project is estimated at $400,000.

In other action, commissioners:

• tabled a decision on a petty cash checking account for paper service for the Antelope County Law Enforcement Center.

• discussed the county’s catastrophic leave policy and the possibility of donating leve days to other employees. No decision was made.

• reviewed a petition and authorized a study to close an unused mile of 853 Road in Willow Township.
