Reliable, Trustworthy Reporting, Capturing The Heartbeat Of Our Community
Changes in Friday activities for Summerland School's homecoming celebration were announced Monday.
In a message sent to patrons via the school's communication system, Superintendent Kyle Finke outlined decisions that led to the changes.
"When I was approached three weeks ago as plans were being finalized, the area that was proposed for a pep rally was still a construction zone," Finke said.
As of Sept. 27, the music department, weight room and wrestling room have been "turned over" to the school, from Hausmann Construction.
Finke hoped to use the football stadium for coronation.
"There is still some audio work that has to be done, as well as bleacher work being completed right now," he said.
Finke attended a student council meeting Friday and a proposal to have the pep rally and coronation in the gym was presented to members.
"A decision was made to invite parents and community members as well. Visitors are welcome to sit in the south side bleachers," he said.
The pep rally is slated to begin at 2 p.m. in the gym.
Royalty, crown bearers and class attendants will be crowned during the event.
Elementary classes will present class cheers, pep band will perform and overall class winners for spirit week will be announced.
Other activities scheduled during homecoming week include Thursday's home volleyball game against North Central. C team, junior varsity and varsity will play, with games beginning at 5.
Friday's football game, in Orchard, against North Central, will kick off at 7 p.m.
The homecoming dance is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., in the commons area at the school.
The dance is open to only high school students, who will be breathalyzed when entering.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. for photos.
