Board of Education held a regular meeting, Monday, July 12, 2021, at the Ewing site. President Nordby called the meeting , which was advertised in the July 7 newspaper, to order at 6:03 p.m.

Nordby noted the Open Meetings Act posted in the boardroom.

Roll call was taken. Present: Candice Hoke, Marty Kerkman, Ed Nordby, Nate Schwager, Steven Thiele, Jeremy Wagner. Motion by Thiele, seconded by Kerkman, to approve the agenda as presented. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner. Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0.

Public participation. No public participation was heard.

Motion by Kerkman, seconded by Hoke, to approve the consent agenda items, with the exception of the Hausmann Construction bill in the amount of $1,961,736.50. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner. Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0. Motion by Hoke, seconded by Wagner, to approve the Hausmann Construction bill in the amount of $1,961,736.50. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Wagner. Nay: none. Abstain: Thiele. Motion carried, 5-0-1.

Minutes of the June 15 meeting, minutes of the July 7 special meeting and monthly financial report were approved.

Old business:

Building construction update: John Wieser from Hausmann Construction was present to give a brief update on the progress at the new building.

Obsolete equipment: Motion by Schwager, seconded by Thiele, to approve the obsolete list as presented. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner. Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0.

Orchard building: This item was combined with item 6B and moved to the end of the meeting. Motion by Schwager, seconded by Kerkman, to enter executive session at 6:54 p.m. to strategize with respect to the purchase/ sale of property and discuss additional staff needs and is necessary for the protection of needless injury to the reputation of any individuals.

Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner. Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0.

The board came out of executive session at 9:01 p.m.

New business:

Start date for the 2021-2022 school year: Discussion was held concerning the status of getting into the new building. Superintendent Fink presented the board with an amended calendar that would allow all students to start on the same date in the new building. Motion by Schwager, seconded by Nordby, to begin the 2021-2022 school year on August 30 and to approve the amended 2021-2022 school calendar. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner.

Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0.

Additional staff needs: Combined with item 5C and moved until the end of the meeting. Motion by Thiele, seconded by Hoke, to increase the number of paras for the 2021-2022 school year to 20. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner. Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0.

Handbooks: Motion by Thiele, seconded by Hoke, to approve the handbooks as presented. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner. Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0.

State health standards: Motion by Thiele, seconded by Wagner, to approve submitting the letter as presented to the Nebraska Department of Education concerning Nebraska

tate Health Standards. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner. Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0.

Cheerleading/dance team and sponsor: Tabled until school starts and more information can be obtained.

Lawnmower bids: Postpone the purchase of a mower until spring.

Bank account signatures: Motion by Thiele, seconded by Kerkman, to add Kyle Finke, Sally Finch and Carol Thiele to Cornerstone Bank signature cards. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele, Wagner. Nay: none. Motion carried, 6-0.

NASB update: No update was available at this time.

Administrative reports: Cathy Cooper reported on the following: handbooks, schedules, workshops, extra duties and MTSS committees.

Greg Appleby reported on calendar and activity sponsors.

Superintendent Fink reported on technology update from Tonya Strom, donation of a flag by Bob and Shari Ickes for the new school gym, chairs and score tables for the gyms and upcoming conferences he will be attending.

The next regular board meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, at

7 p.m., in Orchard at the Orchard School building.

President Nordby adjourned the meeting at 9:06 p.m.
