King joins SAM staff

Faith King, a junior at Summerland Public School, has joined the Advocate-Messenger staff.

The Clearwater native will assist with multiple duties, including the paper’s E-edition, News First postings and social media updates.

She will also work with website development for ColdType Publishing’s commercial printing division.

Additionally, she will report and photograph area events.

King is Microsoft Suite-certified.

Through business courses at Summerland, King earned certifications in Excel, Power Point and Word.

“I had to score a 700 or above on tests,” King said.

To become certified, she studied by taking practice tests and then put those skills to use in a practical format.

Each test took an hour. Within each test, King was required to complete seven or eight projects and needed to successfully pass each test.

Although King called the experience “stressful,” she said it was a good experience.

King is also serving as an intern at the Clearwater Public Library this summer, after the library received grant funds for the position.

She will be designing a website for the library. It will feature a link to the library’s online catalog, programming information and local events.

King said she wants to be able to use her creative skills for an audience.

“I like to be able to tell a story,” she said.

Publisher LuAnn Schindler said King will be an asset to the paper and printing division.

“Faith’s skillset, especially with website development and technology, are impeccable. She will add valuable experience to the Advocate- Messenger. We’re excited to have her join the SAM family.”

King is interested in becoming a lawyer following graduation.

“It will let me fight for people who don’t always have a voice,” she said.

King is involved in multiple extracurricular activities, including Skills USA, art, one-act, speech and National Honor Society. She plans to join Future

Business Leaders of America in the fall.

She is a member of the Clearwater Methodist Church and volunteers for service opportunities, as needed.
