Summerland school board accepts resignations

Summerland Board of Education approved two resignations from longtime employees during the board's April 12 meeting, in Clearwater.

Letters of resignation from Nancy Harpster and Jeff Shabram were read at the meeting.

Harpster has served as an administrative assistant at Ewing for 38 years and said she has had an opportunity to work with many "wonderful people," including students, parents, staff, administrators and board members.

Harpster wrote, "I am going to miss those daily interactions at the school, but I have decided that it is time to step back and enjoy my time with family and friends and to pursue other interests."

Shabram has accepted a 7-12 math position at Verdigre Public Schools.

His letter consisted of a brief message, "I am done teaching here. Thank you for everything."

Shabram taught science at the Orchard site and served as football coach, in addition to overseeing the powerlifting program.

Two instructor positions for the 2021-2022 school year were filled.

Abbey Schwindt will return to the district and serve as 7-12 language arts instructor.

She previously taught at the Clearwater site.

Carrie Kucera will serve as the 7-12 science instructor.
