A request to sit out fines and costs in the Holt County Jail, in two separates cases, was granted to Darrick E. Nekuda, 43, of Stuart, by the Honorable Kale Burdick in the Holt County court.

Nekuda made the request Jan. 29. Burdick approved, ordering the time be served after Nekuda completed a Platte County jail sentence he was serving at that time.

Nekuda pleaded guilty to four infraction counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, one count committed Nov. 3, 2020, and three counts committed Dec. 20, 2020, per waivers filed April 13, along with applications to sit out the $400 in fines and $74 in costs, April 13. Burdick ordered the time be served at a rate of $150 per day. Non-waiverable costs of $17 in each case were paid by the defendant.

Geraldine F. Peterson, 69, of Chambers was fined $500 and sentenced to seven days in the Holt County Jail. She was given credit for one day previously served and was taxed $105 costs of prosecution.

Petersen pleaded guilty to a count of driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense, pursuant to a plea deal with Holt County prosecutor Brent Kelly, on April 6. She was arrested Feb. 17 by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper after he observed her driving left of center about nine miles south of O’Neill on Highway 281.

Peterson was represented by Holt County public defender Rod Smith.
