Overtime contest ends in dramatic fashion
An errant in-bounds pass with .02 seconds remaining on the clock hit the edge of the backboard, ending the Summerland Bobcat boys basketball season, 57-56, against North Central, during Monday's opening round of subdistrict play, at Neligh-Oakdale High School.
The Knights jumped out to an 18-10 first-quarter lead, but the Bobcats continued to peck away at the deficit, pulling within three points, 25-22, at the midway mark.
North Central edged out the Bobcats in third-quarter scoring, leading 39-34, but Summerland powered through in the final stanza, pouring in 14 points, to knot the game at 48 apiece.
Overtime included a bit of back-and-forth between the two teams, but North Central sealed its fate by drawing a foul from Summerland senior Dalton Rotherham and draining the bonus shots to secure the win.
Hoke led the Bobcats with a dozen points. Senior Dalton Rotherham chipped in 11. Hoke and Kellen Mlnarik finished the contest with eight rebounds apiece.
