You could say I'm super excited the Kansas City Chiefs are returning to the Super Bowl for the second straight season.
I knew the Chiefs were going to be good again entering the 2020 season and I held out hope that they would get back to the big game.
Before that could happen, Kansas City had to beat the Buffalo Bills in the AFC championship game, which was held Sunday evening at Arrowhead Stadium.
While my wife, Christina, entertained our daughter Hazel – who was dressed in a red Chiefs onesie – my eyes were locked on the football contest playing on the TV in our living room.
However, with Hazel's early evening bedtime, I had to switch over to viewing the game on my smartphone with headphones, which worked just as well.
Kansas City looked like the No. 1 seed in the AFC as it beat Buffalo, 38-24, to again earn the Lamar Hunt Trophy, named after the Chiefs founder.
Now my favorite pro football team is going for back-to-back Super Bowl titles after winning consecutive AFC championships.
I also was hoping the final NFL game of this season would be a matchup of Midwestern teams meeting in Tampa, Florida.
However, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took down the Green Bay Packers, 31-26, Sunday afternoon to win the NFC championship and dash that dream.
The Chiefs now get to face a quarterback who refuses to retire – Tom Brady – and a team that has a rare home-field advantage in Super Bowl LV.
At least Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes is healthy and able to play. He was a magician against the Bills and put on another amazing performance.
When Feb. 7 finally rolls around, you'll find me at home in my red Mahomes jersey and Kansas City pajamas with a cold Chiefs-themed beverage in my hand.
I'm hoping to feel super excited again after watching the Chiefs take home another Super Bowl title and avoid going another 50 years without winning the big game.
