Holt County Supervisors hold reorganizational meeting

Holt County supervisors selected who will fill leadership positions during the board's Jan. 7 meeting.

Bill Tielke was re-elected to serve as chairman and Doug Frahm will oversee the board of equalization. Per board policy, when a chairman is absent, the other chairman will preside.

Four individuals were reappointed to positions they currently hold, including Gary Connot, road superintendent; Mike Durre, planning and zoning administrator; Deb Hilker, emergency manager and Ken Stenka, veterans service officer.

During the meeting, supervisors approved wages for county personnel. Base pay for truck drivers, motor grader operators, semi drivers and countywide road employees was set at $18.60 per hour, while mechanics' base pay was established at $21.74. Individuals working as a distributor operator will receive $20.60 per hour.

Board members agreed to maintain a policy giving hourly road employees a five-cent addition, on base pay, for every consecutive year of service to Holt County.

The yearly salary for the road superintendent was boosted to $73,000 per year, including a $9,750 stipend received from the state for the superintendent to hold a Class A bridge inspection license.

Custodial staff will receive an increase in wages, with the courthouse custodian salary set at $40,800 and the part-time position set at $17 per hour.

Stenka will receive $49,500 as veterans service officer.

A motion, by Don Butterfield, to maintain a salary of $7,800 for the planning and zoning administrator failed, due to a lack of second. After discussion, supervisors approved a $200 increase, setting Durre's annual salary at $8,000.

A motion by Scott Keyes, to increase the annual salary for the emergency manager, to $27,000, failed on a 2-4 vote. Keyes and Butterfield voted in favor.

A second motion, made by Treptow, and seconded by Frahm, to increase the emergency manager wage to $27,500, passed, 4-2, with Keyes and Butterfield voting against the motion.

Supervisors interviewed three candidates for the county treasurer position, which opened following the resignation of Connie Krotter.

Shelly Ross will fill the vacancy and complete the remaining term, effective Feb. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022.
