Summerland Public School Board of Education held a special meeting, Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at the Orchard site.
President Nordby called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Nordby noted the Open Meetings Act posted in the room.
Roll call was taken. Present: Candice Hoke, Marty Kerkman, Ed Nordby, Nate Schwager and Steven Thiele.
Motion by Thiele, seconded by Kerkman, to excuse the absence of Jeremy Wagner. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele. Nay: none. Absent: 1. Motion carried.
Motion by Hoke, seconded by Kerkman, to approve the agenda as presented. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele. Nay: none. Absent: 1. Motion carried.
Introductions and process to date. Mr. Alan Ehlers and Mr. Darren Tobey from McPherson & Jacobson were present. Ehlers shared the process to date.
Review school/community group input. Tobey reviewed the meetings that had taken place earlier in the day with students, staff and community membrs. He will share the responses electronically later with the board.
Interview questions. Ehlers finalized the interview questions with the board.
Intervhew procedures and schedules. Ehlers went over the interview schedule and process.
Identify/finalize stakeholder chairs. The stakeholder group chairpersons were discussed.
Review next steps. The position closing date is Jan. 14, 2021. The board will hold a special meeting on Feb. 3, to select the candidates to be interviewed. Interviews will take place Feb. 8 to 12. The regular board meeting will be Feb. 14. The starting date for the new superintendent will be July 1.
Superintendent compensation package. Motion by Kerkman, seconded by Schwager, to go into executive session at 6:53 p.m., to discuss the superintendent compensaiton package and is necessary for the protection of needless injury to the reputation of any individuals. Voting aye: Hoke, Kerkman, Nordby, Schwager, Thiele. Nay: none. Absent: 1. Motion carried.
The board came out of executive session at 7:42 p.m.
Review of principal assignments for the 2021-2022 school year. The board decided to table the principal duties until a later date.
President Nordby adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m.
