Wrestlers finish fourth at Bobcat invite

O'Neill claimed the team title at the Bobcat invite Thursday, December 10. The Eagles scored 195.5 points to lead the field of 12 teams. Winside finished second, with 109.5 points. Howells-Dodge ended third with 68 points, while the Bobcats finished fourth with 66.

Other schools participating included Palmer, 63; Hartington Cedar Catholic, 56; Elgin Public/Pope John, 52; Osmond, 51; Fullerton, 48; Lutheran High Northeast, 39; St. Mary's, 27; and Niobrara/Verdigre, 12.

Alex Arroyo earned a gold medal in the 160-pound division. Arroyo started the day with a win, by fall, in 1:04, over Favian Acevedo, O'Neill. In the third round, he pinned Korth Kale, HCC, in 1:48.

Next, Levi Belina, H-D, won, by fall, over Arroyo in 3:05. In the fifth round, Arroyo won, by fall, 3:12, over Johan Rojas, LHNE.

Eli Thiele earned a silver medal in the 132-pound class. Thiele pinned Cole Steffensen, HCC, in 3:40 in the first round and won, by fall, in 1:39, over Hunter Beacom, Osmond, in the second round. Next, Thiele won, by fall, in 2:22 over Kullen Cartella, O'Neill. In round four, Thiele won, by fall, in 3:56 over Gage Stutzman, Howells-Dodge. In the fight for first, Ty Reinforth of O'Neill won, by fall, in 2:00 over Thiele.

Anthony Ferris, Kendrick Schroeder and Julie Olivan earned bronze medals in the 113, 170, and 152F divisions, respectively.

Ferris won by major decision 12-1 over Dylan Parks, O'Neill. Next, he won, by fall, in 1:06 over Ashten Burival, O'Neill. In round four, Carter Beckman, EPPJ, pinned Ferris in 2:51. Ferris dropped the final match to Cooper Behmer, Winside, by fall, in 3:28.

Servando Gonzalez, O'Neill, won by major decision 13-2 over Schroeder. Jestin Bayer, Howells-Dodge, won, by fall, in 2:09 over Schroeder. In round three, Schroeder won by 16-15 decision over Dawson Lemburg, Palmer.

Kadance Dworak, EPPJ, won, by fall, in 3:23 over Olivan. In the second round, Isabella Smidt, EPPJ, pinned Olivan in :14 for a sudden victory.

Christian Behnk placed fourth in the 220-division. Behnk fell in :13 to Jerrod Land, Fullerton. Chet Wichmann, Palmer, pinned Behnk in :25. In round three, Matias Jimenez, O'Neill, won, by fall, over Behnk in 1:02.
