After approximately 15 years as the Holt County treasurer, Connie Krotter will leave public office and take a position in the private sector.
Her resignation will be effective Jan. 15.
Krotter submitted a letter of resignation during Monday's Holt County Supervisors meeting. Chairman Bill Tielke read the letter to fellow supervisors.
The announcement was met by surprise from members of the board.
Krotter said she has been blessed and humbled to serve the county for 15 years.
"I worked with a lot of you board members for a lot of years and I can't thank you enough for your support and everything you've done for me as a public official and Holt County," she said.
Krotter has accepted a position with Edward Jones, serving as a branch office administrator.
"It kind of caught me off guard," she said. "I feel it's a great opportunity. It's been a tough decision, to say the least."
Tielke said Krotter was named treasurer mid-term, after being appointed by the board.
Two years remain on her term.
Krotter said when she was appointed, she started in October and filings opened in January.
"I only had two months with no prior training," she said.
"We, as supervisors, will appoint," Tielke said.
"I hope I left the county in a better place than I found it," she said. "It was truly to an honor to work with you as a board."
