Defendants granted arraignment delays to talk to lawyers

The Honorable Donna Taylor sustained several requests for defendants to consult with lawyers when she presided from the county court bench at the Antelope County Courthouse in Neligh last Wednesday.

Aluat D. Atem, 42, of Lincoln appeared on a violation of probation charge. She requested a continuance to consult with an attorney, which was granted by Taylor. The hearing is continued to Dec. 2.

Atem was sentenced to nine months’ probation, participation in the continuous alcohol monitoring program and required to use an ignition interlock device on any vehicles she drives, in June, as part of her sentence for a DUI conviction.

While the defendant passed all urinalysis tests conducted, probation officials allege multiple positive tests on the CAM, as well as multiple positive results on the interlock device. In addition, probation officials allege she attempted to have another party take the interlock tests on four occasions.

Additional violations alleged include a citation issued in Lincoln for driving a vehicle not outfitted with an ignition interlock device along with not wearing a seatbelt and no valid registration.

Taylor sustained a motion to continue pretrial hearing for Sergio Martinez, 32, of Clearwater, to Dec. 16. Martinez faced charges of driving under suspension and no operator’s license, both Class 3 misdemeanors alleged July 15. Bond filed July 15, in the amount of $1,500, 10% cash, is also continued.

Continuance of further arraignment/hearing was also granted for Tina M. Petersen, 45, of Fremont. The proceedings are continued to Jan. 6, 2021, on a charge of driving under suspension/before reinstated, a Class 3 misdemeanor alleged Sept. 1. Bond filed Sept. 9, in the amount of $3,000, 10%, is also continued.

Jordan W. Gonzalez, 22, of Neligh faced Taylor for arraignment on three counts alleged Oct. 20, when he was stopped driving 85 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone - Count I, DUI, a Class W misdemeanor; Count II, speeding, an infraction; and possession of an open alcohol container, also an infraction.

Gonzalez requested continuance to consult an attorney. Further arraignment is set Dec. 2. Bond filed Oct. 13, in the amount of $1,500, 10% , is continued.

Teisha J. Reitan, 33, of Blair appeared for arraignment on a Class 3 misdemeanor count of driving under suspension/before reinstated. Reitan waived her right to counsel. Further arraignment is continued to Dec. 2. Bond filed Oct. 13, in the amount of $1,500, 10%, is continued as well.

Calli R. Wilkinson, 21, of Tilden faced Taylor on two counts alleged Oct. 10, minor in possession of alcohol, ages 19/20, a Class 3 misdemeanor, and possession of open alcohol container, an infraction.

Wilkinson requested continuance to consult an attorney. Further arraignment is set Dec. 2.
