Six Lady Bobcats earn post-season honors

Wagner, Cheatum land on top team

Avery Cheatum and Brenna Wagner were two of 12 players selected for first-team honors by the Niobrara Valley Conference.

Selections for first- and second-team choices, as well as honorable mention nods, were announced Monday, by conference officials.

The two Summerland seniors join Audrey Mohr and Lauryn Hoffman, Boyd County; Morgan Ramsey, Ryann Haburchak and Tessa Metschke, Chambers/Wheeler Central; Allyson Selting, Lexi Bode and Taylynne Charf, Elgin Public/Pope John; Carney Black, Elkhorn Valley and Lexi Schroeder, Stuart.

Summerland Head Coach Rachael Cheatum said it’s an honor to have six players selected.

“These girls worked hard this season and ended up being one of the top teams in the conference, which was a great accomplishment, after losing so many great players last season.”

The coach credited each of the players for leadership roles they established on the squad.

“Brenna and Hadley were our go-to hitters, Avery really covered a lot of the court defensively for us, Kyra did a great job getting the ball to our hitters, Emily was our best blocker and Ady did a little bit of everything for us throughout the season,” Cheatum said. “They were a good group to coach and I’m glad they were recognized for their efforts.”

Summerland setter, Kyra Nilson, and hitter, Hadley Cheatum, earned second team mentions, along with Emma Johnseth, MaKenna Pelster and Rachel Dierks, CWC; Ashlynne Charf and Kirsten Krebs, EPPJ; Kenzie Mosel, EV; Adyson Linse, North Central; Paige Furstenau, Neligh-Oakdale; Jadyn Eby, St. Mary’s and Sydney Estill, Stuart.

Emily Nordby and Adyson Mlnarik received honorable mention.

Other players earning honorable mention include Amelia Hoffman, Daydra Zeisler and Haylie Carson, Boyd County; Michelle Koenig, CWC; Skyler Meis, EPPJ; Brielle Bussinger, Jenna Hallock and Karley Anderson, NC; Claire Whitesel and Trinity Kurpgeweit, NO; Emily Parks, Niobrara/Verdigre; Dawayna Wabasha, Santee; Lorissa Reiman and Mya Hedstrom, St. Mary’s, Cadence Kramer and Taya Schmaderer, Stuart and EmiLee Walnofer, West Holt.
