Treptow replaces Hahlbeck on county board

After representing District one as a Holt County Supervisor for 18 years, Don Hahlbeck has made a final motion: retirement.

Hahlbeck was scheduled to leave for Texas, Saturday.

Hahlbeck submitted a letter announcing his retirement during the supervisors' Aug. 17 meeting.

Holt County Clerk Cathy Pavel placed notice announcing the vacancy in the county's official publications. Applications were accepted, with eight individuals showing interest.

Pavel, along with Holt County treasurer Connie Krotter and Holt County Attorney Brent Kelly, interviewed all potential candidates and selected Josh Treptow to fill the remainder of Hahlbeck's term.

A native of Ord, Treptow has resided in O'Neill for five years.

He, along with wife, Shalane, own two businesses: J & S TV and Electronics and J & S Outdoors, both in O'Neill.

The couple has two daughters, Gracie, age 10 and Lakeyn, six. They attend O'Neill Public Schools.

Treptow said he applied to fill the remainder of the term to help the county and local community.

He said road conditions remain a challenge.

"We're still cleaning up from flooding from a year ago. We have work to do," Treptow said.

His term will be up for re-election in 2022.
