After Summerland students in grades seven through twelve, along with staff members, signed two beams, workers maneuvered the pieces of steel into their final resting place on the new school building during Monday’s topping off ceremony.
Superintendent Dale Martin said, “It’s exciting to see all the progress that’s going on out here. It’s fantastic to see what’s going on week by week, day by day. Make that mental picture, along with the physical picture, too, because you’re going to see a lot of changes continually until this is done.”
Construction is projected to be completed in December 2021.
Martin said a construction appears to be on schedule.
“We appreciate everyone who is working on this,” Martin said, mentioning Hausmann Construction and Wilkins Architecture Design and Planning, in addition to other companies.
“Now, it’s reality, when we see the physical structure going up,” he said.
Steven Thiele, representing Hausmann Construction, said the company gets to take part in a lot of projects.
“Not many are as special as this one. Obviously, to me, it’s near and dear because it’s home for me. For Hausmann, especially, to see something like this, with three towns coming together, there can be so much support behind, it’s really cool,” Thiele said.
