Kurpgeweit, Peter receive 4-H scholarship

The Holt County 4-H Council recently announced recipients of the 2020 4-H Council Senior Scholarship, Emily Kurpgeweit and Taylor Peter.

Kurpgeweit graduated from Ewing Public School this spring. She has been actively involved in 4-H for 12 years and has exhibited projects in many areas including bucket calves, baking, food preservation, sewing, modeling, crafts and table setting.

She is an active member of the Sandhill Wranglers 4-H Club and was elected and served in multiple officer roles, including secretary, publicity chair and treasurer.

Kurpgeweit is also a member of the Holt County Shooting Sports Club and competes in .22 and trap.

She was voted in and served as, a youth representative on the 4-H Council twice, the second year she even served as the council’s secretary. Kurpgeweit will attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this fall and is planning to major in agribusiness.

Peter graduated from Chambers Public School this spring. She has been actively involved in 4-H for 11 years and has exhibited projects in several areas, including beef, dairy goat, horticulture, floriculture, photography and food preservation.

Peter is a member of the Prairie Wranglers 4-H Club. She made a goal to help educate and provide information to younger 4-H members with their projects. She has helped a boy with his boer goats and her seven-year old cousin, who was nervous to participate in 4-H for the first time.

Peter stated, “4-H has taught me many valuable lessons, such as leadership, responsibility and discipline. It has been a huge blessing to be a part of this great organization.”

She will attend Northeast Community College and will play basketball.

Kurpgeweit and Peter will each be presented a $500 scholarship, contingent upon receipt of the first semester college transcript, with a 2.0 grade point average or greater.
