New Moon committee kicks off 10K challenge

Tough times are what the New Moon Community Theater is made of. Rebuilt during wartime, after a tragic fire in 1944, the beloved landmark stands as a reminder of the resilience of rural Nebraska communities. Now, more than ever, individuals need this reminder of what is capable and of the history from which we come.

In order to improve the lives of those living in Antelope County and beyond, the theater's renovation committee will move forward with the restoration of the landmark and invite area residents to be a part of the adventure.

The New Moon Community Theater is kicking off an important fundraiser, "The 10K Challenge". The committee is looking for ten, ten thousand dollar donations. One board member has agreed to kick off this fundraiser with a donation.

A generous contribution of 10K will be used to complete exterior renovations. Specifically, to help cover roof replacement costs which totaled $140,000. The roof is guaranteed for 15 years and the construction contract ensures that any future problems will be covered and completed.

Committee members also have signed contracts for replacing the building's brick façade. Water damage made it necessary to replace all the bricks, which have been ordered. Masonry work and bricks will cost $37,000. The project received $25,000 from the Down Town Revitalization Fund through the City of Neligh, which leaves us with roughly $150,000.

Any contribution is welcomed and celebrated. For more information, contact board member, Melanie Miller at 402-841-1450.
