A popular country-rock band with nearly 30 years of experience wowing crowds will kick it up on Ewing's Main Street, Sunday, May 24.
Little Texas will headline a main street concert that will conclude the village's 150th anniversary celebration. Omaha-based Hi-Fi Hangover will open the 8 p.m. concert, with Little Texas playing a 75-minute set at 9 p.m. Hi-Fi Hangover will return to the stage to close the show.
Little Texas, part of the young country movement of the early '90s, shook up the country music world with a sound that fused traditional country themes with modern rock.
Favorites like "Some Guys Have All The Love," "God Blessed Texas," and "What Might Have Been," pushed the band to the forefront of the music scene. In 1994, they were honored by the Academy of Country Music as Vocal Group of the Year and they played a part in Common Thread: The Songs of The Eagles, which earned the Country Music Association's Album of the Year.
In 1997, the group separated, choosing to spend time with family and friends and work on individual projects. "At that point it was time for our loved ones to have us back for awhile. It all happened for a reason," said Duane Propes, bassist-vocalist.
Seven years later, the multi-platinum band's four original members - Propes, Porter Howell, Dwayne O'Brien and Del Gray rebuilt the franchise with a completely new sound. In 2007, Little Texas released Missing Years and The Very Best of Little Texas: Live & Loud. Drummer Del Gray said, "The four of us appreciate each other and still have a ball on stage. There is a comfort level that happens to us when we play together that can only happen with 20-something years of experience."
Propes promises the show will have something for everyone. "The vocals are there, the guitar work is there, the party songs are there, the make-you-cry love songs, the songs about Texas."
Tickets for the concert will go on sale Monday, Feb. 24.
