Need increases during holiday season
Saving a life and making a difference were evident during the Ewing FBLA blood drive.
The youth organization sponsored the Nov. 13 drive at Ewing United Methodist-Presbyterian Church.
blood donations tend to decrease during the holiday season by as much as 25%, according to the American Red Cross. The need for blood is always present as patients require surgery and chemotherapy treatments continue. A lack of donations makes it difficult for area hospitals to keep enough blood products needed to save lives.
First-time donors receive a mini-health screening, including blood pressure check, pulse rate and hemoglobin readings.
According to the American Red Cross, a critical need for type O blood donors exists.
