Cyclones can't overcome third quarter drought

A quiet third quarter from the Cyclones’ offense led to a 31-18 loss to Twin Loup.

The teams met Oct. 11, in Sargent.

Twin Loup struck first, as Colby Coons ran 15 yards for a score. The PAT attempt failed.

The Cyclones answered when Houston Marino ran 63 yards to tie the game. OC’s PAT was unsuccessful.

In the second quarter, Cooper Coons took a 7-yard run into the endzone, bumping Twin Loup’s lead to 12-0 after a failed PAT.

Marino responded with a 30-yard run for six. Again, the Cyclones PAT failed.

The third quarter belonged to Twin Loup, as the Cyclones could not contain the host team.

Quade Young scored from the 1-yard line (PAT failed) and Bryce Lamb landed on a fumble recovery in the endzone for a touchdown. He sent the PAT through the uprights to give Twin Loup a 25-12 lead.

Each team scored once in the final quarter. Colby Coons found the endzone for the second time, running in from two yards out. The PAT failed.

Marino added a 7-yard run for OC, but the PAT was unsuccessful.

Marino led the passing attack, connecting on four of seven passes and added another 124 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Colton Thiele led the Cyclones with 17 tackles, including one for a loss.
