Douglas D. Carpenter, 43, of Neligh faced the Honorable Michael Long in the Antelope County courtroom Tuesday, Sept. 3, for a bond hearing.
He was arrested early Sept. 1 by Neligh Police Chief Michael Wright, on counts alleged Aug. 31. Charges include stalking and resisting arrest, both Class 1 misdemeanors, and disturbing the peace, a Class 3 misdemeanor.
Long signed a probable cause for detention order Monday, Sept. 2, and ordered Carpenter appear in open court for the bond hearing, “because the defendant is currently on probation and because of the stalking nature of his conduct.”
Joe Abler, Antelope County Attorney, filed a motion for bond conditions, asking that the defendant be subject to GPS monitoring, on the recommendation of his Nebraska District 7 probation officer, “due to his violent history or history of stalking behaviors, and concerns that, if not more closely monitored, may continue stalking or seeking contact with present (alleged) victim.”
Carpenter has Antelope County District Court convictions, in 2012, of stalking and theft by unlawful taking, and in 2018, of third-degree assault, as well as a 2015 Pierce County conviction of first-degree criminal trespassing and disturbing the peace, involving the same victim as the 2012 Antelope County conviction.
Long set bond at $10,000, 10%, with the following conditions: No contact, directly or indirectly, with Dana Klabenes; do not go on real estate of Dana Klabenes; do not be on the 800 block of East 5th Street in Neligh; and be subject to GPS monitoring from Sept. 5 until further order of the court.
Carpenter informed the court he would hire his own attorney, with further arraignment set for Oct. 2, at 9:30 a.m. He posted bond Sept. 3.
