    The 47th commencement of Northeast Community College will take place Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. Due to ongoing directed health measures that are in effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's event will be a virtual ceremony. As of May 4, some 891 students, including those earning more than one degree, and 220 who completed their studies this past summer and fall, are listed in the commencement program. Summerland Board Committee members, along with original boards of education from Clearwater, Ewing and Orchard, each tossed a shovel full of earth to commemorate the occasion, while practicing social distancing measures throughout the ceremony.     Lauren Behnk and Jackie Olivan, seniors at Clearwater Public Schools, have been named recipients of the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation scholarship. Funds can be applied to any part of a student's cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, books, room and board, personal expenses and transportation, at any eligible Nebraska public institution.   • Clearwater board of education sets graduation date

    Clearwater Public School's class of 2020 will graduate June 20. The original board of education approved the date, and set a second date as a back-up plan, at its May 5 meeting. If a traditional ceremony cannot be held in June, some type of ceremony will take place on that date, with July 25 as the alternate date for a traditional ceremony.     On April 11, Ewing Full Gospel Church distributed canvas shoes to all 156 students of Ewing Public Schools. Pastor Mark Hoffman said each student's feet were measured Feb. 12 and on Saturday, students received shoes, along with a pair of socks. The church also distributed lunch to students.
