An Alliance woman made an unsuccessful attempt to fight a speeding ticket in the Antelope County courtroom in Neligh last Wednesday, Aug. 3. Jane E. Fletcher, 55, faced the Honorable Donna Taylor for trial on an infraction charge of exceeding the posted speed limit by 25 miles per hour. Fletcher, who was self-represented, testified for the defense and Nebraska State Patrol trooper Mora Tighe was called to the witness stand for the prosecution. April was National Autism Awareness Month and National Adopt a Pet month. Zekiel Kaiser, a preschooler at Summerland Public School, was successful bringing a light to both causes last April. It was a tale of unbalanced quarters for the Bobcat boys' basketball team, during the Dec. 28 championship game of the Summerland Holiday Tournament. The hosts lost to Walthill, 67-46. A 45-mile cruise between Ewing, Orchard and Clearwater drew 15 teams to compete in the FunFest road rally, sponsored by the Summerland Advocate-Messenger and Ewing Young Members Club.
