Orchard Village Trustees approved a $6,500 bid from John Prouty Construction for demolition of a house situated at 135 W. 3rd Street when they met Oct. 21 in regular session. Village board races were decided during the Nov. 5 General Election. In unofficial results from Antelope County, Clearwater voters re-elected Cody Kester and Kelly Kerkman. Orchard voters chose Stephanie Cleveland and John Ferguson to retain their seats on the board. In Royal, Dennis L. Bridge and Duaine Brandt were the top vote-getters, with 21 each. Orchard Public Library representatives made its budget presentation to Orchard Village trustees during the Aug. 12 board meeting. Library director Donna Hamilton and library board member Amanda Shabram requested $21,000 - $1,750 monthly - for the 2024-2025 budget. It took two motions and nearly an hour of discussion for the Summerland Board of Education to approve the sale of the Orchard site to the Village of Orchard. The future of the former Orchard school hit a potential hurdle last Tuesday, as board of education members rejected bids submitted to demolish the former building and move the heating, ventilating and cooling system. Matthew F. Brandt, 34, of Royal faced the Honorable Donna Taylor in the Antelope County courtroom in Neligh on Wednesday, March 16, to be sentenced for a 2021 crime. Taylor sentenced Brandt to 15 days in the Antelope County Jail, fined him $500 and revoked his driver’s license for 60 days for a conviction of leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.
