The condition of an Antelope County road that connects U.S. Highway 275 and U.S. Highway 20 - a road that will see an increase in traffic if Tuesday's Summerland school bond is approved - was a discussion point during recent informational community meetings. It's a topic that has also been discussed at the school board level and during subcommittee meetings throughout the process, according to Dale Martin, superintendent of Nebraska Unified District #1. "Roads haven't been ignored. The focus...
Supersize this. A giant pumpkin, weighing 966 pounds, was hauled from its growing spot, south of Ewing, to a competition in Rapid City over the weekend. Grown by Tamra and Larry Ziems, the pumpkin placed fourth in the 11th annual Downtown Pumpkin Festival. Monday, the pumpkin traveled to its new - and final - home at Martin's Hillside Orchard in Ceresco. This weekend, Tamra said they will haul produce to a competition in Harrisburg, South Dakota, sanctioned by The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth....
My name doesn't really matter. It's my experience that I think will be valuable, for I follow the trajectory of most millenials stuck in our time. A count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor w...
If you want to catch a glimpse of real America, try cycling from coast to coast. Jemma Stilwell, an English native, traveled along U.S. Highway 275, Friday, making short stops in Ewing and Clearwater. A chance conversation with a group of coffee drinkers at Westend Mini-Mart in Ewing altered Stilwell's route, sending her to the Summerland Advocate-Messenger for a quick visit about her trek. Stilwell departed Seattle, July 25, riding between 80 and 100 miles a day, en route to Washington, D.C. "I...
The Antelope County commissioners approved preliminary levy allocation requests from political subdivisions, when they met at the courthouse in Neligh on Aug. 6. Regina Krebs addressed the commissioners regarding annual levy allocations for the subdivisions, including rural fire districts, the Antelope County Ag Society and the Antelope County Airport Authority. In past years, the board had sometimes denied the subdivision levy requests, in order to allow the county general budget to levy the...
