An eclectic mix of tractors traversed the countryside connecting Antelope and Knox counties, Saturday, during the annual Royal Tractor Parade. After a two-years hiatus from ice, the Royal Volunteer Fire Department Ice Fishing Tournament returned with a large group of competitors. Forty-one teams entered the five-hour event, Sunday, at Grove Lake. Royal Fire Chief Gary Ober said it's "great" to have a large number of teams participate and be back on the ice. A Royal tradition drew participants from across Nebraska to the Antelope County village over the weekend. The annual Royal Tractor Parade, held July 17, included a lineup of vintage tractors, with a few modern pieces mixed in. This year has been extremely hard on small-town fire departments. Within the past two months alone, the Royal Volunteer Fire Department has responded to six calls in the area.
