Summerland cross country runners didn't let the heat get to them, Thursday, as temperatures pushed into the low 90s at Burwell at the Calamus Golf Course. The Village of Ewing will receive $431,640 from the Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund, for construction of a two-unit duplex. The award was announced Wednesday by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. A total of 40 projects will receive funding statewide. In April, the Ewing village trustees reviewed guidelines with Judy Petersen, executive director of the Central Nebraska Economic Development District. Shilo Shabram, a 16-year-old from Neligh, was crowned Miss Clearwater Rodeo, Friday, at the 55th annual Clearwater Big Rodeo. Shabram has been involved with all things rodeo from a young age. She competed in the Boots and Saddles Club when she was six or seven. Then, she tried her hand at western pleasure and eventually, transitioned to poles and barrels. Nine student athletes are setting their sights on the finish line. Summerland cross country coach, Carrie Williamson, welcomed three returning letterwinners and six new runners when practices began, Aug. 10.
