Since we're writers, we, at SAM love lists. Trust us, we keep and use them every single day. But, how does one determine which articles should be at the top of the yearly list? The class was seated in the court gallery to observe Nov. 16 county court proceedings. The docket was comparatively light, giving Antelope County Judge Donna Taylor the opportunity to spend about an hour visiting with the students. Bobcat speech team members have found success early this season, including two public speakers who have made their way to the top of the medalist stand. While community members and students gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Friday, at Summerland School, it seemed only fitting that background music for the event was supplied by a combine spilling golden kernels of corn into a semi-trailer. On a typical Saturday during speech season, students can be found boarding a school bus before the break of dawn, traveling hours to reach a destination to perform. While the possibility of those early morning trips still exist, Summerland speechsters were able to arrive at Saturday's competition site within minutes of leaving home. Homecoming 2020 will have a different look for Summerland School. Each site recently announced senior royalty candidates and underclassmen attendants. Student Council Advisor Shannon Schumacher said coronation will take place at halftime of the Sept. 18 football game, which will be played in Orchard. A traditional parade and dance will not be held.
