A Meadow Grove couple who oversee Antelope County's 4-h rabbit division were named the recipients of the 2023 Jolene Mosel Helping Hand Award. The presentation was made Sunday, Aug. 6, during the county's 4-H awards show in the livestock arena at the fairgrounds in Neligh. Nebraska Community Foundation received a $5,000 grant for the Antelope County 4-H Youth Enrichment Center. The grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America’s (FCSAmerica) Working Here Fund. The Working Here Fund grant will be used to help build a new, modern, multi-use facility that can be used year-round for 4-H activities. Antelope County Commissioners approved five tourism grants during Tuesday’s meeting, in Neligh. Two promotional grants were approved for the Neligh Chamber of Commerce, for $350 apiece. One grant is for the upcoming Novemberfest event, scheduled for Nov. 6 and the second is for the yearly parade of lights. A capital campaign to construct a youth enrichment center on the Antelope County Fairgrounds is underway. The idea hatched after the 2020 show-and-go fair, as participation numbers in poultry and rabbit exhibits skyrocketed. Rhonda Meyer, campaign committee chairman, said exhibitor numbers in these areas have increased exponentially in the past five years.
