"When I was approached three weeks ago as plans were being finalized, the area that was proposed for a pep rally was still a construction zone," Finke said. As of Sept. 27, the music department, weight room and wrestling room have been "turned over" to the...

The Nebraska Capitol is undergoing a 20-week-long restoration process expected to be completed by mid-November. The project is the second restoration effort since the Capitol was built in 1922. The exterior of the building, excluding the dome, was repaired from 1998 to 2010. However, the caulking is not the same durability that it was 40 years ago. A few ingredients in the old caulking were removed from the product, which weakened the durability of the sealants. The old caulking and the...
Admit it. Every time you open the refrigerator door, you hope and pray the jumbled mess of Rubbermaid containers filled with last week’s leftovers, cups of yogurt and not-completely-zipped Ziploc bags full of grapes don’t tumble into a mess on the kitchen floor. It’s okay. You can also admit when opening said door, you pray the 87 jars of partially-used condiments - the ones you know you’ll never empty - don’t shatter on the tile floor you finished mopping 10 minutes ago. Been there. Done that...
The 2020 census is an important tool for understanding population trends and demographic shifts in our greater Nebraska hometowns, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Articles lamenting the shrinking population of rural areas abound, but we know better. Nebraska Community Foundation’s Youth Survey is taking a qualitative look at the reasons young Nebraskans choose to remain in, return to or leave their hometowns. Our work at NCF suggests there’s much to look forward to in greater Nebra... Full story
Alcoholism, and addiction overall, isn't a character flaw, or a weakness of self-control. It's a disease. And, if you are like most of us, you've probably been affected by it. Maybe you struggle with alcohol consumption yourself or have a friend or family member who does. I rarely talk with anyone who doesn't have a personal story about how addiction has affected their life. About 14 million adults have an alcohol use disorder and there are about 95,000 alcohol-related deaths every year in this...

Surprise guests with sautéed pears as a garnish for grilled or fatty meats such as pork and duck. - Seasonal dessert menus welcome pears, too. Poach them in red wine, then serve with their reduced...
